According to Elizabeth Haiken, author of "Venus Envy: A History of Cosmetic
Surgery," the field of plastic surgery should continue to be interesting.
Breast, pectoral and buttock implants are old hat now. Bicep implants are
on the horizon. A new technique for breast augmentation is being developed.
A sort of "grow-your-own alternative," engineered-tissue that grows itself
once it's implanted in the breast.
As for strange things, well, let's say stranger than using "a powerful
vacuum cleaner to suck liquefied fat out of thighs," Harken says "I suppose
the most disturbing thing, and I've only seen a couple of reports of it,
is a current technique that surgeons call esthetic labioplasty, in which
women have decided they're just not pretty enough down there."

Last October, Heber Frias, on the lam from a first-degree murder charge in
Florida, saw his freedom come to an end in front of an Arlington, Virginia,
7-Eleven, when he tauntingly stole a candy bar right in front of a clerk,
provoking a call to the police, who apprehended Frias just outside of the
store.

Rome: An Italian senator proposed changing the way police ticket speeders
after a colleague suffered an embarrassment. Currently, police snap photos
of the front seat occupants of speeding cars as well as the license plates.
The photo, along with a ticket is sent to the motorist. According to a
Milan newspaper, a Senator's wife opened the mail and found a photo of her
husband and another woman. The proposed law would require police to send
photos to the local station house rather than mailing them to offender's
homes.
